THE CASE

The police closed it too soon

An astronomical observatory in the mountains. The night from Saturday to Sunday. In the morning the scientific director lies dead under the dome, nine metres below. The police called it an accident and closed the case. Five months later someone drained the fire water tank, and the case came back.

The prosecutor leading the investigation appoints you as experts. The file arrives envelope by envelope, in the order in which the knowledge came in: reports, witness statements, photographs with their reverse sides, maps, device logs. Each envelope ends with a check question. The right answer opens the next one.

DISTRICT PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE
IN JAWORZYCE

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have appointed you as experts in criminal analysis in the case of the death of Dr hab. Rafał Zawistowski. In January I discontinued this case myself as a tragic accident. […]

Each envelope carries one question. The point is not to guess right. The point is to know. […]

You have twenty-one days. So do I.

Prosecutor Renata Ossowska

TOOLS

This isn’t a game you only read

In this case you measure, overlay and calculate. Everything you need is on the screen.

1:1 sheets and a ruler

Shoe prints, the width of a handrail, distances on the map. You measure them yourselves, to within half a millimetre.

Light Table

Lay one sheet over another, as on a glass pane lit from below. Whatever doesn’t match shows up at once.

Time converter

Clocks, cameras and phones each record the time their own way. Bring them all to one time.

Cipher disc

Someone wrote certain things down so that not just anyone could read them.

Music and sound

Music of its own for every act, rustling envelopes, clicking dials. One tap turns it all off.

Hints when you’re stuck

Three for every envelope, in mirror writing, so nobody reads them by accident.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps to the last envelope

  1. Buy access

Sign in with Google or with a link sent by email. Pay by BLIK, bank transfer or card. The game is in your account straight away.

  2. Read the file

Start with envelope 1. Look for the answer to the check question: one word opens the next envelope. Your progress saves itself.

  3. Solve the case

After envelope 5 you fill in the solution card: who, how and why. Envelope 6 tells you what really happened, and the scoring key awards the points.

One account is enough for the whole team: play together around one screen, or each on your own device, signed in to the same account.

TO BE FAIR

Who it isn’t for

If you’re after a light fifteen-minute puzzle, this isn’t the case for you. Here you read reports, compare times and measure footprints. Nobody will tell you who did it: you fill in the solution card yourselves, and only then do you open the last envelope.

QUESTIONS

Before you buy

What can we play on?

In the browser: on a computer, tablet or phone. A computer or tablet is the most comfortable. There’s nothing to install; on a phone you can add the game to your home screen like an app.

How many people can play?

From 1 to 6. The whole team plays on one account: around one screen or on several devices signed in to the same account.

Can we stop and come back later?

Yes. Your progress is saved to your account automatically. The whole case takes 5–7 hours, best spread over two evenings.

What if we get stuck?

Every envelope comes with three hints. The third one practically gives you the answer.

What age is it for?

Ages 15 and up. The game is about a person’s death and an investigation, without graphic images. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account.

Do we need the internet?

Yes, to buy the game and load it for the first time. After that, the parts you have already opened work offline, and your progress reaches your account once you’re back online.

How do I pay?

On the payment provider’s page: by BLIK, instant bank transfer, card or a mobile wallet (the available methods are shown on the payment page). We don’t store any payment details.

Can I return the game?

The game is digital content. We make it available straight after payment, with your consent, and at that point the right to withdraw from the contract expires. If something doesn’t work, we’ll deal with your complaint within 14 days. Details: returns and complaints.

Can I get a VAT invoice?

Yes, on request. Email us at kontakt@archiwumzagadek.pl with your order number and company details.

Is it a real case?

No. The story, characters and institutions are made up, and the documents only imitate official files.
